BE YOUR BOARDROOM BEST
The top seven new ways to style your workwear
1 SLEEVELESS
Sleeveless grandpa vests and waistcoats are a rising star among the fashion set for the autumn months, and we’re more than happy to follow suit. Making a nice change from the standard blazer and shirt combo, this classic tailored look is a lot more versatile than you think. Wear a waistcoat on its own with wide trousers, or layer a knitted vest over your favourite collared shirt for a relaxed take on corporate wear.
3 CLOSE KNIT
A knitted co-ord or dress should be a wardrobe staple by now, but elevate the look with a ribbed set to shake things up. Instead of trying to rehash your weekend look, shop close-fitting ribbed tops with matching “fit-and-flair”-style skirts that hit at the mid calf. They’re flattering, elegant and business meeting appropriate.
2 FOLDER BAGS
This two-dimensional handbag shape was made for the 9-5 grind. Resembling a thin paper-filing folder, they’re not the most practical but they do make for a sleek addition to a tailored look.
4 LOW AND SHARP
Make your footwear choice practical and easy with midi-heeled options you can rotate daily. If you need to update your court shoes, go for colour! Simple pastel pumps can liven up any grey trouser and have you comfortably running to the next meeting.
LEATHER WEATHER
It’s time to whip out these smooth, statement pieces, but before you do, make sure they’re work appropriate. Leather can be quite a controversial look at times, but with the right shapes and styles, it can easily be an office staple. Make sure your pants are straight and loose fitting, dresses should be button-up and A-line, and opt for relaxed, shape-enhancing jackets. Try the hero item: a shacket (a cross between a shirt and jacket). Paired with straight crop jeans or trousers, it’s the winning combo this season.
MODEST MIDI
Without sounding like a broken record, make the midi dress a must-have to mix up your working wardrobe. This season, they’re floaty rather than fitted, high necked, and sit at that perfect mid-calf length. Wear it on its own, with a trench or blazer belted over the top, or add some killer calf boots. It’s the most versatile piece you can own.
SUIT UP!
Still going strong, the power suit is sticking around, although a little more masculine this time around. Opt for a subdued ’90s charcoal brown if you’re not comfortable with colour. The key things to look for are a wide-legged pant that skims the floor and fits the waist perfectly, and a hip-length jacket that doesn’t completely swamp you at the shoulders. If you don’t want to go the full look, the wide-legged trouser on its own is just as hot on the trend list.
