AMAZON HALO

There are fitness trackers and then there’s the Amazon Halo. This intelligent (and dare we say, slightly judgey) device doesn’t just tell you how many steps you’ve done but also analyses things like your body fat and even your tone of voice. Yep, that’s right, the Halo listens to you through the day, then provides feedback on things like how “warm”, “appreciative” or “embarrassed” you sound. At the moment, the Halo is only available in the US for $99 (AU$130, plus a AU$5.25 monthly subscription). But if this sounds like your cup of tea, keep an eye out for when the Halo hits our shores.

SPIRE STONE

Our breathing changes in response to our emotions. So if you’re trying to keep tabs on how much you stress throughout the day, a breath tracker might be for you. The Spire Stone is a pebble-like contraption that’s designed to clip discreetly on your waistband or bra strap. It measures your breath, along with your activity levels, and then provides feedback to help you control and manage stress. Another bonus? It’s waterproof, so if you accidentally throw it in the washing machine it will live to see another day. $268 amazon.com

WITHINGS SLEEP ANALYSER

OK, so this isn’t technically a wearable but with almost 60 per cent of Australians experiencing one kind of sleep issue or another, this could be the perfect solution if you don’t want to wear a sleep tracker. Simply slip it under your mattress and it will do the rest. There’s an audio sensor to monitor snoring and breathing pauses to measure your risk of sleep apnoea, as well as a pneumatic sensor that captures your respiratory rate, heart rate and body movement. $199 jbhifi.com.au

OURA RING

When it comes to wellness wearables, they don’t get much sleeker than the Oura Ring. This ingenious piece of bling made headlines last year due to its ability to measure body temperature and potentially warn of coronavirus – with the NBA purchasing more than 2000 rings for its players and staff. It can also track your activity levels, sleep and heart rate – along with something called “readiness”, which reveals how prepared your body is to take on the current day’s stressors.

BELLABEAT LEAF

Looking for some seriously smart jewellery? The Bellabeat Leaf is a wellness tracker that can be worn as a bracelet, necklace or clip. It’s optimised for women, so along with tracking your activity, sleep, stress levels and meditation, it can also keep tabs on your menstrual cycle. It’s also shower safe and comes with a long-lasting replaceable battery, so no charging is needed!

HUAWEI WATCH FIT

The wearables market has been flooded with smart watches, but the Huawei Watch Fit is ultra cute while also being one of the more affordable offerings around. It will measure your stress levels, along with things like your heart rate, sleep quality, menstrual cycle and blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂). It also features a powerful battery, which means you won’t have to recharge it for up to 10 days. $249

MUSE S

Sleep trackers are big news these days, and they don’t get much more high-tech than the Muse S, which basically acts as a sleep lab in your own home. The EEG sensors measure your brain activity to tell you the depth of your sleep and while it’s definitely not discreet, it doubles up as a useful meditation tool. Simply slip on the soft, adjustable fabric headband and listen to guided meditations or soundscapes, which change depending on how deeply you’re in the zone.
