Fifty years ago the prospect of Australian women having their own AFL competition was a dream. Fast forward to 2021 and the landscape is dramatically different. After five years, women playing elite level AFL is the new normal.
The competition’s launch in 2016 was another pivotal point in history, not only changing the nature of a cherished game but also creating opportunities for professional female athletes in Australia.
