THE HIT LIST

WITH THE SERIES REVIVAL CURRENTLY BEING FILMED, WHO GETS THE GOSS ON WHAT’S HAPPENING IN NYC!

-

And Just Like That… filming has started on the revival of the iconic Sex and the City series, 17 years and two feature films since its last episode. Earlier this month, Sarah Jessica Parker took to the streets of New York City to start production for the show’s eagerly anticipated return, with the star, 56, dusting off her Manolo Blahniks before teaming up with co-stars Kristin Davis, also 56, and Cynthia Nixon, 55, on set.

Although famed costume designer Patricia Field hasn’t returned to lend her sartorial flair to the show due to scheduling conflict with Netflix’s Emily in Paris, Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda’s fashion senses appear to have kept up with the times – with the trio donning a number of stylish numbers in snaps from their first days of filming. And along with the on-set sneak peeks, details have continued to pour in faster than you can yell “Taxi!”. Here’s all you need to know about the long-awaited reboot …

THE STORYLINE

After news of the return was confirmed in January, HBO’s president of programming, Casey Bloys, revealed that the network isn’t “trying to redo” Sex and the City. “They’re not trying to say that these characters are reliving their 30s,” he explained. “It is very much a story about women in their 50s, and they are dealing with things that people deal with in their 50s.”

Parker gave fans a little more to go off during an interview with Vanity Fair, revealing the new writers’ room – which other than executive producer Michael Patrick King is made up entirely of women – is “incredibly diverse in a really exciting way”, with new “life experience, political world views and social world views”.

The actress also revealed that COVID-19 will “obviously be part of the storyline, because that’s the city [the characters] live in”. “And how has that changed relationships once friends disappear?” she continued. “I have great faith that the writers are going to examine it all.”

THE CAST

Parker’s subtle hint at “friends disappearing” gives us a clue about how writers will explain the absence of fourth member, Samantha Jones played by Kim Cattrall – who has long said she wouldn’t be returning to the show. “Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave,” Bloys also shared. “Friendships fade and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.”

All your favourite SATC men have confirmed their return, including Evan Handler as Harry, David Eigenberg as Steve,

and, of course, Chris Noth’s Mr Big. Among the familiar faces will also be Willie Garson as Stanford, Mario Cantone as Anthony and a surprise return for John Corbett’s Aidan.

There will also be some fresh blood injecting some much-needed diversity into the series, with four newcomers said to become integral characters to the storyline (see breakout).

THE LEAKED SCRIPT

After a page of the new script was leaked on July 15, it was clear the writers have a few surprises up their sleeves. But it’s not looking good for Carrie and Big – warning, spoiler alert!

“I was doing well, wasn’t I doing well? Before this?” Carrie’s lines read. “I mean, I was doing the podcast, I was washing my hair. Yes, I wasn’t eating or sleeping, but at least I felt good about my marriage. Now I’m just one of the wives he was taking care of.”

What does it mean for our favourite couple? You’ll have to wait until And Just Like That airs (reportedly later this year).
