AFTER A FALSE START, THE TOKYO OLYMPIC GAMES HAVE BEEN JAM PACKED WITH UNFORGETTA­BLE MOMENTS

Having already been postponed by a year and set to play out amid a spiking pandemic without cheering crowds, the Games of the XXXII Olympiad faced its fair share of hurdles. Right out of the gate, however, Team Australia – led by a slew of record-smashing female swimmers – achieved its most successful first week in Olympic history: nine gold medals in seven days, beating the previous record of eight, achieved in both Sydney and Athens. As the medal tally continues to tick over, and with much of the nation in lockdown, the jawdroppin­g performanc­es and inspiring stories of humanity are providing a much needed lift in countless lounge rooms.
