KRIS’ LIFE AFTER REALITY TV ERA
THE MUMAGER STRUGGLES TO MOVE ON AT THE END OF A REALITY TV ERA
Anewly released Keeping Up with the Kardashians clip has revealed Kris Jenner’s nostalgic streak. The bonus footage shows the sentimental “mumager” mulling over memories while visiting the Hidden Hills mansion that played a starring role in the early seasons of her family’s hit reality show.
She explains in the clip she returned to her former home while still househunting after selling a second Hidden
Hills mansion she bought in 2017. “What better place to come stay than my old house?” she says in the clip of the Mediterraneanstyle estate, which had been recently occupied by son
Rob Kardashian, 34, and his 4-year-old daughter Dream.
“I can’t think of a better place to come and just feel really comfortable while all this change is going on around us.”
Since filming the scene, Jenner, 65, has shelled out $27 million for an underconstruction mansion next to daughter Khloé Kardashian, 37, who paid $23 million for her place. That home is in addition to a modern mansion located in California’s Coachella Valley that Jenner also owns.
Still, she has a soft spot for her original family abode. “I love it here,” she tells Khloé in the clip while making breakfast in the kitchen. “This is where my heart is … I know all the little nooks and crannies. I know all the little noises. I know every creak on the steps: the black-and-white chequered floors, the white countertops, and the La Cornue stove. I know how the door opens and closes in the middle of the night. And this is my home base. I feel good here.”
It’s no wonder that Jenner is torn about moving on from the home from which she created her empire. In fact, emotions ran high for the whole family when they decided to end KUWTK in June after 20 seasons. While they’ve moved on in their personal and professional lives (see box), they’re not completely stepping away from their reality roots. In December 2020, they signed a multi-year deal to “create global content” to be streamed exclusively on hulu in the United States and in multiple territories on Star internationally. “This is the next chapter,” Jenner teased during a Disney Upfronts presentation in May. “In the new show, you’ll see us evolving as a family, fans want us to be who we are and since moment one, they’ve been emotionally invested in our show just like we are. The fans will love seeing us continue the journey. I can’t say much about what’s coming but spoiler, we’re going to look fabulous and everyone’s going to watch.”
Expanding on her thoughts as to what the next decade holds for the world’s most successful reality TV family, Jenner had a clear vision. “We’ll be on hulu and hopefully thriving,” she told WSJ magazine in April. “Doing what we love to do and being exactly where we’re supposed to be.” Keeping up with the rest of her family will no doubt keep her busy for years to come:
