THE DUCHESSES PUT THEIR DIFFERENCES ASIDE FOR A VERY IMPORTANT REASON
Since joining the British royal family, Meghan Markle has had a complex relationship with her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, that’s best described as frosty. But the devoted mums have finally shelved their differences as they turn their focus to the one thing that unites them – their love for their children.
“Meghan and Kate are actually getting along really well and have been in touch more often,” a royal insider told Us Weekly magazine. “Meghan and Kate’s relationship was never that close. But now they’re closer than ever and working on their relationship for the sake of the family.”
Meghan, 40, has made it no secret that she felt slighted by the Duchess of Cambridge, 39, whom she expected would help show her the ropes after marrying Prince Harry, 36, in 2018. But the pair were reported to “not have much in common” and were rarely seen together before the Sussexes left the UK in early 2020. While Kate and Meghan were often pitted against each other in British tabloids, the Duchess of Sussex decided to use her greater freedom in the US to tell her side of the story. Speaking out on a report that the former Suits star had made Kate cry during a dress fitting for Princess Charlotte, 6, in the lead-up to her wedding, Meghan flipped the story on its head during her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. “The reverse happened,” Meghan told the talk show host in March.
However, after Meghan welcomed her daughter Lilibet “Lili” Diana in early June, her stance on her in-laws appears to have softened and the arrival gave Kate the perfect opportunity to patch things up. “Kate has been reaching out to Meghan a lot more since [Lili] was born, she’s sending [notes and] gifts and trying to build up a relationship,” a source told Us Weekly in July. It seems Meghan has come to realise that she needs Kate’s decade of experience as a royal and her steadying influence more than ever, after things didn’t turn out exactly as she’d hoped when she and
Harry made their big transatlantic move with their son Archie, 2.
When the Sussexes first landed in Hollywood, the couple were the toast of the town. But after being stripped of their official patronages and banned from using their Royal Highness titles, the novelty of their royal status seems to be wearing thin among the A-list crowd.
Despite her best efforts to be taken seriously, Meghan – who harbours political ambitions – appears to have been snubbed by her former allies, the Obamas, after she failed to secure an invite to the former US president’s exclusive 60th birthday celebration on August 7. Four hundred guests, including Harry and Meghan’s pals Winfrey, Chrissy Teigen and George and Amal Clooney, were invited to the extravagant do at Martha’s Vineyard.
The pair were also “betrayed” by their new friend and neighbour Orlando Bloom, 44, who voices the character of Harry in

the new US adult animated sitcom The Prince. While the adults in the Windsor family are used to being the butt of jokes, the satirical cartoon goes a step further and focuses on the Cambridge kids. William and Kate’s eldest child Prince George, 8, is depicted as a tyrant who bullies his butler, while Prince Louis, 3, is portrayed as a thug.
“Harry and Orlando used to text each other when they saw the paparazzi hiding out in their neighbourhood to help protect each other’s kids,” a source tells WHO. “Harry can’t believe he got involved in a show that makes the royal kids look bad. Meghan will do anything to stop that happening to Archie and Lili, even teaming up with Kate,” the source explains.
