After true-crime podcast fever swept the world upon the release of Serial in 2014, it was only a matter of time until the genre seeped into lm and TV shows. In Truth Be Told, Octavia Spencer stars as Poppy, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist-turned-successful true-crime podcaster, who uses her show to help right wrongs and nally put the right criminals behind bars.

In the upcoming second season of the series, Poppy dives head rst into a new murder case who happens to be the husband of her childhood best friend, media mogul Micah (Kate Hudson). As Poppy digs deeper and starts to uncover the truth about Micah, their lifelong friendship will be put to the ultimate test, leaving Poppy not knowing who she can really trust.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ Hudson steps away from the big screen and into her rst lead role in a TV show for the drama series, while Oscar winner Spencer is back as the star and a producer of the show. The actress proudly admits she was attracted to the series after being left spellbound while listening to Serial.

“It’s basically a glimpse into America’s obsession with crime podcasts,” the 51-year-old star told website Entertainment Weekly of the program.

“It challenges the viewers to consider the consequences when justice or the pursuit of justice is on a public stage.
