DREW ON LIFE AFTER KG SHRED

AFTER DROPPING KG, THE STAR IS STILL KEEPING IT REAL WITH HER FANS

- By Sara Tapia

While her whole life has pretty much been in front of the camera, Drew Barrymore is the first to admit that keeping herself photo-ready hasn’t come easy. In a recent Instagram post, the 46-year-old showed off her incredible body (and hilarious personality!) in a yellow swimsuit and a retro floral swim cap – with many of her followers commenting on her trim figure. “You look amazing,” remarked one. “How do you keep yourself so fit?” questioned another.

Having lost over 9kg last year, Barrymore has made a habit of sharing her up and down health journey with her fans. “There have been times I have stood in my closet and just cried. Hated getting dressed. Didn’t feel good! It takes so much for me to look decent,” the star candidly admitted last February. “I have to eat just right and work my ass off!”

“If I looked decent on anything I have done since I had my two kids, I have clawed my way there,” she continued. “You can, too!”

Adopting a “flexitarian” diet a few years ago, Barrymore says she often looks to experts for guidance on how to eat well and train. “I followed [wellness author] Kimberly Snyder’s methods, but I added some protein like fish and chicken since she’s all vegetarian

or vegan,” the star previously shared of one of the eating approaches that worked for her. “I’ve been very disciplined.”

Although Barrymore also admitted that, like the best of us, she often craved comfort food while on the eating program. “All I did was cry and dream about pizza,” she joked. “I am still dreaming and crying about pizza.”

She has also sung the praises of her personal trainer, Marnie Alton, who helped Barrymore shred before her first starring role on the small screen in 2017. “When I told her I wanted to transform my body for [series, Santa Clarita Diet] she helped me,” the actress shared on Instagram last year. “Every spring, when I would start training to become [Sheila Hammond] Marnie was the one who got me there. I lost [9kg] and trained like a mother.”

While she has a love-hate relationship with exercise, Barrymore knows how important it is to keep her weight and health in check. “I eat really clean and healthy, and I do an hour of Pilates at least four days a week,” the actress told InStyle late last year. “I have to work so hard at not being the size of a bus. And it’s OK. That is just my journey.”

Since finding the key to her wellness regimen, Barrymore has become “her best self”. Although she sometimes finds it difficult to manage her work – the star is currently filming the next season of her talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, and also owns cosmetics company, Flower Beauty – while parenting her two girls, Olive, 8, and Frankie, 7, and staying fit and healthy, Barrymore says the juggle is worth it. “NOW I have found that elusive B called BALANCE. 45! It only took 45 years to find myself,” she said in 2020. “Right where I am supposed to be. And it’s not perfect.”
