STARRING: Camila Cabello, Billy Porter

While you often can’t go past the animated Disney originals when it comes to fairytales, Cinderella has seen many a successful retelling in years gone by (Drew Barrymore in 1998’s Ever After, anyone?). This year, the classic story got the ultimate shake-up, with Cinderella having big dreams of becoming a successful designer – meaning she doesn’t necessarily want to marry Prince Charming, in case he might get in the way of her plans. Go girl!

“I just felt like it was a great opportunity to show this loved, iconic character that is Cinderella in a way that’s more relatable to what girls and young women, in particular, are going through, where they can really see themselves,” creator Kay Cannon told Entertainment Weekly recently.

Acting newbie Camila Cabello, 24, takes on the titular role, with the singer lending her voice (and her seriously amazing songwriting skills) to the film’s modern-day soundtrack. “She’s going to surprise everyone because nobody’s ever seen her act before,” Cannon added. “She’s so good, and she’s so natural, and just funny and beautiful and really, really talented.”

Adding to the star-studded cast is Billy Porter as Fab G (aka Fabulous Godmother), Idina Menzel as the wicked stepmother, Pierce Brosnan as King Rowan and Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Robert. Comedian and TV host James Corden also makes a very hilarious appearance as one of the three mice. (Premieres Fri., Sep. 3 on Amazon Prime Video)
