The Buzz About … MATT EVANS

THIS NEW ACTOR OPENS UP ABOUT HIS JOURNEY FROM THE VOICE STAGE TO THE SANDS OF SUMMER BAY

-

It’s been an unusual 18 months or so for all of us but for musician and actor Matt Evans, it’s also been a stand-out time – for all the right reasons!

Evans, 25, has just joined the cast of Home and Away playing troubled Theo, who’s only interested in cars, girls and money. “It’s a bit of a dream come true for me because I’m from a family who are fans of Home and Away,” he tells WHO. “It was a surreal moment the rst time I was in the diner and around the surf club. I was pretty excited, but my mum is absolutely stoked!”

Evans was a completely novice actor when he landed the part. Theo is Leah’s (Ada Nicodemou) nephew and she takes him in when he moves to Summer Bay to escape a strained relationship with his father. “Ada has been amazing, so welcoming, and both she and James Stewart [who plays Justin Morgan] have been like my on-set acting coaches.”

If Evans looks familiar that’s because he was on Team Delta Goodrem on The Voice in 2020.

His agent contacted him after his appearance on the show and suggested he also try out for acting roles. “Up until then, acting wasn’t part of my plan. I was totally focused on music,” he tells. But in a dream start to his acting career, Theo was the rst role he properly auditioned for.

“I’m still pinching myself,” he admits.

“At the moment I’m just doing a crash course in acting and am focusing on that but I’ll always be creating new music, too.

I love both music and acting now. I know how lucky I am.”
