THE STAR GETS READY TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT AS HIS LOVING WIFE STANDS BY HIS SIDE
Matthew McConaughey has been coy about his political ambitions since he revealed in March he was “seriously considering” running in the 2022 election to be the governor of Texas. But it looks like the actor, 51, is finally getting ready to make a big announcement.
McConaughey held a BBQ at his lakeside mansion home near Austin, Texas, on September 4, where no less than six political consultants mingled among the Magic Mike stars family and friends, reported The Times. Also in attendance were two key advisers who were pivotal in the success of fellow A-lister Arnold Schwarzenegger’s
2003 bid to become the governor of California.
“Matthew is very appealing personally, very ‘old boy’ Texas,” a source told the newspaper. “But he must put in the work. That is why the informal chat over the mesquite [a form of barbecuing] is critical,” the source added.
Spurring the Oscar winner on are the results of a poll conducted by the Dallas Morning News in April. It showed that 45 per cent of voters in the Lone Star State would prefer McConaughey, while only 33 per cent favour the current governor, Greg Abbott.
The actor could be just the boost Texas needs after it was hard-hit by the coronavirus pandemic. While Abbott, 63, has banned mask and vaccine mandates, McConaughey has encouraged fans to mask up and get the shot.
“Let’s quit messing around and get it done,” he said in a video to celebrate the American Independence Day public holiday on July 4. “Let’s keep living.”
McConaughey is also extremely popular after he and wife Camila Alves, 39, helped raise over $10 million for victims of a deadly storm that ravaged the state through their We’re Texas virtual benefit concert in March. “Celebrity in this country counts for a lot,” Republican party strategist Brendan Steinhauser told Politico. “It’s not like [McConaughey’s] some C-list actor no-one likes. He has an appeal,” he added.
While many stars would probably be put off running for office over fears about what skeletons could get dragged out of the closet during an intense election campaign, McConaughey has already aired his dirty laundry. There are no secrets left to spill about the star after he candidly discussed his “outlaw” life in his 2020 memoir Greenlights. The True Detective star even spoke about his 1999 brush with the law,

where he was dragged naked from his house for “disturbing the peace” after playing the bongos loudly in the middle of the night.
“What I didn’t know was that while I was banging away in my bliss, two Austin policemen also thought it was time to barge into my house unannounced, wrestle me to the ground with nightsticks, handcuff me and pin me to the floor,” he wrote in the bestselling novel.
Regardless of what the future brings, McConaughey’s wife Alves has made it clear she is standing by her man. The pair tied the knot nine years ago and share daughter Vida, 11, and sons Levi, 13, and Livingston, 8. The model – who met the actor during a night out at a club in Los Angeles in 2006 – admits that while their marriage is no picnic, she puts in the hard yards to make it work.
“I was actually thinking about it this morning because you can go through a lot of things in a relationship, you can go through a lot of ups and downs, no relationship is perfect. It’s work,” she told Hollywood Life. “But when you’re doing the work, what do you choose? That’s the question that is really important for people to ask when you’re working in your relationship, what do you choose? And for me, I choose love and I choose growth,” she explained.
