Running from October 10-16, National Carers Week is a time to recognise and celebrate the 2.65 million Australians who provide over 2.2 billion hours of unpaid care a year – that’s over 42 million hours every single week! “Many of us have given up careers and life plans in order to see another person is cared for,” explains Idell. And despite it being a “24/7 role with no sick leave, holidays or superannuation”, Idell says many couldn’t imagine it any other way. “Thanks to carers and the work that we do, our vulnerable have an advocate and in general a much better quality of life,” she adds.
