TV MADONNA MADAME X
STARRING: Madonna
In a career spanning more than four decades, Madonna has become as well known for her style reinventions as she has for her classic tracks. The 63-year-old’s most recent incarnation, Madame X
– a secret agent, who travels the world, changes identities and ghts fearlessly for freedom – was also the title of her 14th studio album released in 2019, and is now the title of her new documentary lm.
The show, lmed in her adopted home of Lisbon, Portugal, showcases an inventive and visually spectacular tour. “Sharing my vision with global audiences has been profoundly meaningful to me,” the singer, whose global hits include ‘Holiday’, ‘Vogue’ and ‘Ray of Light’, says. “The opportunity to bring its message and the incandescent artistry of all involved to an even wider audience comes at a time when music is so deeply needed to remind us of the sacred bond of our shared humanity.”
The show itself features 48 on-stage performers including Madonna’s children. The New York Times praised the show, saying “Madonna’s re-imagined a pop spectacle for a theatre stage, [and] merged her newest music and calls for political awareness with striking intimacy.”When it comes to pivoting from a live music spectacular to a very watchable concert
lm, of course Madonna would be the artist to nail that transition. A must-see!
