DAVE GROHL

THE FOO FIGHTERS FRONTMAN HAS FINALLY PUT PEN TO PAPER AND WRITTEN HIS NO HOLDS

BARRED BIOGRAPHY It’s been a wild ride for rock god Dave Grohl who has packed a lot into 52 years. Following the release of their iconic anthem ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ in 1991, rising grunge band Nirvana – consisting of Grohl on drums, lead singer Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic – catapulted to fame and came to de ne a signi cant musical era.

After Nirvana’s frontman tragically took his own life in 1994, Grohl founded Foo Fighters – for whom he is the singer, guitarist and main songwriter – and has spent the past 27 years playing to tens of thousands of fans, all the while taking home 12 Grammy Awards. The versatile musician has also lent his skills to the likes of Mick Jagger, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney and Iggy Pop.

When the coronavirus pandemic forced Grohl to pause and take stock of his rock’n’roll journey, he used the opportunity to channel his creativity into writing his memoir, The Storyteller. The tome is a catalogue of the unimaginable experiences that have molded Grohl into the man he is today, from learning to drum on pillows and dropping out of high school at 17 to tour European clubs, to his tumultuous years with Nirvana and Foo Fighters, and also the simple pleasures of family life with wife Jordyn Blum and their three daughters – Violet, 15, Harper, 12, and Ophelia, 7.

While people’s memories are often triggered by sight, taste or smell, Grohl reveals in his biography that sound helps him to remember a particular time and place. “My life ashes before my eyes through my ears every single day. In this book, I’ve captured some of them, as best I can,” he writes in the introduction. “These memories, from all over my life, are full of music, of course. And they can be loud at times,” he adds.
