THE FEEL-GOOD FACTOR

Yep, it’s true – exercise really can make you happier! We reveal the four hormones responsible for that mood boost

-

There are many reasons people chose to exercise, but perhaps the best one of all is that it simply makes us feel good. It’s that natural high you can get after your favourite HIIT class, or the serene feeling of calm that washes over you following a soothing yoga session or a relaxing stroll in the park.

The reason is due to some very real changes that take place in your body – and it’s all thanks to four hormones that you release when you exercise.

“Any form of exercise will be beneficial in triggering the release of these feel-good hormones,” reveals Ellie Hargreaves, an accredited exercise physiologist from Holixir Women’s Wellness.

The key is to be consistent, and most importantly of all, choose something you enjoy. Here, Hargreaves reveals the chemicals you need to get acquainted with and the things you can do to help activate them.
