Keiynan Lonsdale is the name on everyone’s lips right now. His star is on the rise in Hollywood, and thanks to his playful sense of style, good looks and talent, we’re calling it – the triple threat is Tinseltown’s newest It Guy.
He stars in streaming’s newest o ering alongside Dylan Sprouse (Riverdale) and Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) in My Fake Boyfriend, an LGBTQI+ romantic comedy about Andrew (Lonsdale), a Hollywood stunt guy who keeps going back to his cheating, toxic boyfriend.
The story really kicks o when Andrew’s meddling friends, played by Sprouse and Hyland, create for him a new, perfect fake boyfriend called Cristiano for social media. Naturally, things spiral out of control when Andrew meets his real-life dream guy, and Cristiano goes viral.
But Lonsdale’s starring role in the future hit almost wasn’t so. The 30-year-old told GQ how he almost rejected the part, which coincided with him exiting The Flash, to focus on his music career. His decision to juggle both has paid o , and he’s learnt a lot about himself as a result, too.
“I identify with him in many ways,” the out-and-proud artist tells the publication of his character Andrew. “I understand his awkwardness and his missteps. I mean, for the rst time, I’m dating… not in secret. And I’m nding myself in some not-so-great relationships, where I’m spiralling into dark places because of love. But it’s teaching me a lot of patience, both with myself and with partners.”
Raised by a single mother in Sydney’s St Marys, Lonsdale said there is a plus side to “spiralling”: “A lot of good music comes from those dark places.”
