THE JOURNALIST FINDS INSPIRATION IN THE BRAVERY OF OTHERS

-

It’s hard to believe Melissa Doyle had time to put pen to paper. But between her radio gig, TV commitments, her podcast and running a household, she did. In 15 Seconds of Brave: The Wisdom of Survivors, Doyle shares the stories of some of the most resilient people she has ever met during her years reporting on triumph and tragedy. She believes everyone needs to read these important tales of bravery. “There are eight extraordinary people in this book and I feel that there is so much we can learn from them,” Doyle tells WHO. “They all touch on di erent issues and a lot of them are obviously a lot more extreme than anything most of us will ever go through in our lives – I hope to God. Like grief, murder, addiction, abduction and sick loved ones, or having a child with a terminal illness. But I think the point being that each of us can take a little bit of something from everyone’s story, or even if one person’s story can help a reader then that’s the most precious thing that we can do.” From one woman who ed a civil war ravaging her African country to another whose own daughter killed her beloved father, and a friend who struggled with alcoholism – Doyle’s stories will have you captivated and grabbing for a box of tissues, too. But they’ll also leave you inspired and awestruck. Doyle herself was overcome with emotion at times during her interviews. “I would never hide my emotions from people that I’m talking to because

I don’t expect them to hide theirs from me,” she explained.

“Some of the interviews spanned over the course of a couple of years.”
