If you’ve ever landed upon 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown while ipping channels, you’d know the kinds of laughs that comedian and the show’s host, Jimmy Carr, brings in. With his stylish wit, devilish charm and distinctive laugh, the 50-year-old’s deadpan delivery of controversial one-liners often has audiences in raptures – though he knows he’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

“I’m not for everyone – I’m a strong avour. People who choose to come and see my show have a fantastic time. We get on, you know? It’s almost like a friendship,” the comedian explained last year before kicking o his global tour. “As a comedian, you desperately want to be liked, but it’s OK for people to be o ended and to not like it. I mean, there are those who turn it o and say, ‘That’s a bit much for me and I don’t like it,’ but to say, ‘I don’t think anyone should be allowed to hear that,’ those are two di erent things.”

In Australia for his all-new Terribly Funny stand-up tour, Carr will perform more than 75 shows between February and May 2023 – entertaining crowds with his jokes about all sorts of terrible things. “Terrible things that might have a ected you or people you know and love,” explains the press release for the show. “But they’re just jokes – they are not the terrible things. Jokes are little lies. Nothing more than wonderful, funny, joyful tricks, constructed from language.”

Catering to “an adult paying audience who’ve got a good idea what’s in store”, the UK star says ticket holders might want to be prepared for the fact that nothing will be o limits at the show. “Having political correctness at a comedy show is like having health and safety at a rodeo,” Carr jokes. “Now you’ve been warned, enjoy the laughs.” (Tickets to Carr’s remaining shows are available at bohmpresents.com)
