Get started in desktop publishing with Affinity Publisher
“A look at the basics of Serif’s Affinity Publisher – a pro-grade desktop publishing (DTP) app
Serif has been updating its suite of pro-grade art and design applications for a while now, with the launch of Affinity Designer in 2014, and Affinity Photo in 2015. We’ve been waiting for the release of Affinity Publisher for some time – now it’s here in the form of a free-to-download public beta from affinity.serif.com.
While Adobe is king in this particular software sector, its subscription pricing model may put you off – especially if your livelihood doesn’t rely on using its apps. Serif’s Affinity apps, by contrast, are sold the old-fashioned way – as a one-off payment for each major version – and they contain many of the features of Adobe’s software, and are often also compatible with its files.
Note: since Affinity Publisher is in beta, there’s a chance things might change as the software evolves – with that in mind, let’s get started!
Ian’s best tip! The version of Publisher we’re using doesn’t have active Personas yet – later betas should do, though .
