Married at First Sight Alex and Zoe: ‘We’re pregnant!’
The couple who defied the odds now have a new reason to celebrate
It’s the news they’ve dreamt of since they met and fell in love on Nine’s Married at First Sight in 2015. After months of trying for a baby, lovebirds Zoe Hendrix and Alex Garner are expecting their first child – and they couldn’t be happier!
“We’re absolutely over the moon,” shares Zoe, who is due in October.
Chatting about the day they found out they were expecting, Alex admits he was elated and terrified both at once.
“To be honest, when Zoe did the first pregnancy test, she could see a faint line but I couldn’t,” he reveals. “But then when the darker line came finally through on the fourth test she did, I was a little bit scared. I was, like, ‘this is real, it’s actually happening.’ ”
The road to starting a family has been bumpy for the couple, who were the only pair to remain together from the first series of Nine’s social experiment.
Zoe suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage last year, then when she fell pregnant this time, she was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum – the same severe morning sickness the Duchess of Cambridge experienced with her two pregnancies. “I was in hospital for two days on a drip, and was vomiting 30 times a day,” tells the 27-year-old Ethiopianborn beauty, who says despite the difficulties she was more determined than ever to start a family. “It’s calmed down a lot now, so I’m starting to enjoy the journey.”
New beginnings
When it comes to finding out their baby’s sex, Zoe says they plan to keep it a surprise.
“We don’t know and I don’t think we’re going to find out,” she says. “All I know is that my boobs are enormous!”
As for the baby’s name, Alex, 31, says he has a few options in the bag already.
“We have a couple of ideas – we like Matilda for a girl.”
And with their sights set on having three or four children, it looks as though this baby is just the beginning!
