Suri is delighted to reconnect with her dad, but it has Katie worried
As she snuck out of the gates of her exclusive private school in LA, Suri Cruise anxiously looked over her shoulder before making a call on her iphone.
The exchange was brief, but onlookers say the 10-year-old was deep in conversation with whoever was on the other end.
And there’s one person her mum Katie Holmes hopes would not be on the line – her ex and Suri’s dad Tom Cruise.
Insiders reveal Tom, 53, has finally reconnected with Suri after allegedly not seeing her for nearly three years.
“Suri’s been talking to Tom behind Katie’s back,” a source tells Star magazine. “For Tom it’s been very emotional – he looks forward to her texts.”
It’s made Suri happier than ever, but they’ve reportedly been keeping their conversations limited because they know Katie would disapprove.
Like any divorced mum, Katie, 37, wants Suri to be close to her dad. But his involvement with Scientology has left her torn, fearing that Tom may try to limit her access to her daughter.
“Katie is very concerned about Suri being brainwashed, that’s why she wants to monitor every conversation,” the insider says.
“Katie is well aware of how powerful Scientology is and she doesn’t want Tom luring Suri away from her. It’s a constant fear.”
Daddy’s girl
Having seen the limited access Tom’s first wife Nicole Kidman, 48, has to the couple’s children Bella, 23, and Connor, 21, Katie is particularly afraid.
It also breaks her heart when Suri asks questions about Tom.
“It’s not surprising that Suri is confused by the lack of communication between her parents,” says another source.
“She’s growing up, asking more questions, and it’s becoming harder to shield her from the whispers. She wants to speak to her dad.”
Insiders say Tom may also be using Suri to gather information on Katie’s rumoured relationship with actor Jamie Foxx, 48.
“Tom likes to be in the know, even though he’s not upset about it,” the source says.
“He gets to find out about Katie through Suri, which is a pretty natural curiosity for any divorced couple. But I’m sure she doesn’t want Tom knowing about her romantic life.
“Katie has worked hard to distance, but not completely erase, Tom from Suri’s life. If Suri and Tom are betraying her trust, she’d be absolutely furious.”
