Prince George turns three

Prince George turns 3! Our favourite royal is all grown up and quickly becoming the perfect prince

- writes ERIN HOLOHAN

He may be the future ruler of Britain, but as far as are we’re concerned he’s the King of Cute! As he celebrates his third birthday on July 22, we can’t believe how quickly Prince George – who his parents say is “very lively” and a “cheeky monkey” – has grown. Like all toddlers his age, he’s fast developing his own little personality and outgrowing his baby ways. And as he leaves the “terrible twos” behind, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have revealed George is maturing into a real boy’s boy. Like his dad Prince William, 34, and his favourite uncle Prince Harry, 31, George loves anything with wheels or wings. No doubt his playroom at home in Norfolk is filled with toy planes, trucks and helicopters galore!

Sporty like Mum

George’s mum Kate, 34, has also revealed the prince is taking after both his parents when it comes to his love of sport.

At Wimbledon last week, she told former British player Greg Rusedski that George has already taken to the tennis courts.

“She talked about George, her little boy, playing tennis,” Greg, 42, says.

“He’s got a racket and he enjoys playing tennis, and obviously she plays with William.”

And while Kate says she finds playing against her husband hard because he’s left-handed, Wills is said to be thrilled George shows signs of being a leftie as well!

Not only does George love sport, he’s also very intelligent for a youngster of his age. The adorable prince, who braved his first day of preschool at Westacre Montessori School in January, is said to be doing well in class.

When George isn’t reading his favourite picture book The Gruffalo, Kate says he loves learning about dinosaurs and is a regular visitor to London’s Natural History Museum.

The Duchess recently spoke at an awards night at the museum, and a guest at the time reveals she said: “George comes here quite a lot. He loves three dimensional sculptures.”

It’s likely George’s growing maturity is due in part to the fact tha that he’s taken on the role of big bro brother to Princess Charlotte.

The 14-month-old princess is reportedly giving George a run for his money when it comes to his title of the cheekiest royal the palace has ever seen!

The Duke and Duchess hope he’ll always set a good example for his younger sister, with Kate recently admitting George will need to be on hand to “keep Charlotte in order”.

Meeting his fans

While Wills and Kate are fiercely protective of their children’s privacy and right to a normal childhood, it’s likely George is starting to learn more about his role as the future king.

As well as posing alongside his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, grandfather Prince Charles and his dad Prince William for a special portrait commemorating the Queen’s 90th birthday, George proved just how grown up he is when he joined his parents for his very first public engagement.

Delighting fans at the Royal International Air Tattoo in Gloucestershire in England last week, George was all class.

Dressed to impress in navy shorts, a white collared shirt and cute ear muffs designed by Australian label Baby Banz, the prince proved he’s a born leader and crowd-pleaser.

“He said thank you, he was very sweet,” says Cadet Flight Sergeant Eleanor Horton, who helped show the Cambridges the aircraft on display.

“I said that I hope one day he will be an air cadet. He was so cute. He seemed to be more interested in the aeroplanes [than the helicopters].”

He may have had a brief cry when all the noise and people became a bit overwhelming, but George was a true professional at the event, even giving the crowd a royal thumbs up.

“This was a special day as he loves planes and helicopters,” reveals a palace insider.
