Big baby He’s 6kg

This Melbourne mum was stunned to welcome her massive 6kg baby!

When Natashia Corrigan looks at her gigantic newborn baby, her eyes widen in amazement.

“I’m still finding it hard to believe,” says Natashia, who delivered 6.07kg [13lb 6oz] Brian Liddle Jr naturally last Tuesday, at Melbourne’s Mercy Hospital for Women. “I’d dreamed of a little fat baby. I’ve always wanted a little fat baby, and now I’ve got a big one!”

Born at 40 weeks and five days, Brian Jr is almost double the size of an average newborn – stretching 57cm long – making him one of the biggest babies ever born in Australia. He’s already outgrown newborn nappies and has slipped straight into size zero clothing.

With her partner Brian Liddle Sr and sister Kurriki Ellis by her side for support, Natashia powered through the seven-hour labour with only pain-relieving gas, the “power of positive thinking” and deep breathing.

“I think I was in a bit of shock,” reveals the 31-year-old, who has three other children. “It was a bit hard to get him out because he was so big, and they had to get a few extra staff to come in and help,” she adds.

Natashia was warned during her pregnancy that her baby was on the larger side. At the 36week check-up Brian Jnr weighed in at 4.08kg [9lb] – a kilo heavier than Natashia’s youngest daughter at birth. “By the end of term I was struggling just turning in bed and walking up the stairs at home,” says Natashia.

However, nothing could have prepared the couple – or the four doctors and five midwives who arrived to help – for just how big Brian Jr would be when he finally arrived.

Dad Brian, 33, admitted the labour was a “bit scary,” but everyone was fine and the family feel “blessed”.

“This is the first pregnancy I’ve got to experience a natural labour, the longest I’ve ever been pregnant – and I’ve got the fat little man I wanted,” Natashia says proudly.
