My $27k body!
Everyone likes to look their best for special occasions, but Caitlyn Cohalan went all out for her upcoming 30th birthday – splashing out $27,000 on a new body.
“I had to take out a large loan to pay for it, but it was absolutely worth it – I never dreamt I could look or feel this great,” says the mum-of-one from Perth.
In the past two years Caitlyn has lost a staggering 57kg, slimming down from a morbidly obese size 22 to a slim and healthy size 12, thanks to a gastric sleeve and surgery to remove excess skin.
“I tried and failed at so many diets,” she explains. “But every time it just led ed me back to food. I didn’t t want to be obese forever.” er.”
Caitlyn, who ho had struggled with th her weight since childhood, ood, admits she was so overweight weight at her heaviest thatt she was diagnosed with pre-diabetes.betes.
She hated the way she looked,looked but continued to gorge on junk food, powerless to fight her cravings.
“No matter how much I ate, I was never satisfied,” she says.
But the birth of her son Robert, now three, forced Caitlyn to turn her health around.
“I wanted to be able to take him to the park to play, but I weighed 120kg so that sort of activity was almost impossible,”impossible she says.
“I knew I couldn’t shed the weight on my own, so my doctor suggested gastric sleeve surgery. The fact it would make me feel full appealed – I hadn’t felt that way in years.”
It wasn’t long before she began to see results from the $7000 procedure. “The weight came off really quickly,” recalls Caitlyn, who dropped to a trim 65kg.
“I was absolutely thrilled, but I was left with so much excess skin that I still struggled to get on with day-to-day tasks.”
So, four months ago she went under the knife again, this time to remove a further 2kg of excess skin from her waist.
The life-changing surgery came at a cost, setting her back another $20,000. But she insists every dollar was worth it.
“The difference is amazing – it’s changed my life,” she says.
“I’ve finally got a body I can be proud of, and I can’t wait to celebrate my 30th birthday!”
