Hugh Sheridan: ‘Jess Marais is my secret weapon!’
Hughh Shsheridanid hhadd a secret weapon when he was preparing for the rrole of Nick on the new series oof House Husbands – Jessica Mmarais. “It was really nice hhaving Jess living next door tto me while she was shooting The Wrong Girl in Melbourne, and she basically moved in with me. Every night I’d cook her something and we’d run lines together,” says the 31year-old singer and actor.
“I hadn’t seen her for ages, but nothing ever changes. She and I went through NIDA together for three years, which was intense, so we’ve really bonded. We’re super close and I’m godfather to [her four-yearold daughter] Scout.”
Three-time Logie winner Hugh says he jumped at the chance to play charming music teacher Nick Gazecki, who falls for Rachel Hilton ( Jane Allsop) in the fifth season.
“It’s been a real whirlwind. I love the show; it’s very funny and Nick is a really nice guy. He’s had a hard past, but he’s addressedddd hishi issues and he finds himself in love,” says Hugh.
In fact, Nick and Rachel’s romance made for some interesting filming, including some alfresco lovemaking! “It was very noisy and I did hear that Gary [Sweet] knew someone who lived up the street, and apparently the guy’s son was like, ‘What is that noise? Is someone being attacked?!’” laughs Hugh.
Jokes aside, the chance to join an incredible cast and work with Gary and Julia Morris has been a dream.
“Gary, in particular, has learned how to make me laugh, and that’s difficult because our characters don’t like each other,” Hugh reveals.
“He’s just so funny and I love that. It’s great to have to come to work and try not to wet your pants laughing,” he says.
