Thermage

A one-off treatment that uses radio frequency to strengthen and re-energise the layers of collagen under your skin. “We’ve found the current trend has shifted from Botox to hydrating, lifting and tightening the skin, and this is where Thermage comes in,” explains cosmetic nurse Katherine Millar-shannon, owner of Duquessa clinic. “It’s a one-off treatment that lasts one to two years, depending on your age and skin health, and we focus on lifting the eyelids and jowls.” Price starts from $2700 and there’s no recovery time needed.

Eyebrow strokes

Similar to micro-blading or feathering, this semi-permanent tattoo-like procedure uses pigments to fill in sparse or barely there brows with strokes that look exactly like hair. There are different methods, so it’s best to shop around to see what will suit you best. Most will cost upwards of $400 and involve several salon visits over a few months. Celebrity brow guru Sharon Lee has created her own technique, the Triple Layer Method – a mix of multiple shades of colour with multiple blades over multiple visits. “It’s the best way to create incredibly natural looking brows, and is perfect for women with sparse or uneven hair,” she says.

Dermapen

Otherwise known as microneedling, the Dermapen is set to be the most popular route to younger-looking skin. A wand featuring multiple needles is used to vertically pierce the skin to stimulate natural healing processes. “We apply numbing cream to the area, and then set the depth of the needles depending on the area we’re treating – it could be your face, legs or hands – then we roll it around for about 20 minutes,” explains Katherine. “It works to treat pigmentation, scarring, stretch marks, lines and wrinkles, and helps plump up the skin.” It’ll set you back $500 a session and requires between three and six visits.
