Dannii’s warning to Kylie: ‘Don’t marry Josh!’
The Aussie singer’s family knew Joshua spelled trouble
Kylie Minogue’s fans were left in total shock last week when the singer announced she’d split with her fiance Joshua Sasse.
But the news was no surprise to her Melbourne-based family, who Woman’s Day can reveal played a key role in the singer’s decision to call off her wedding.
Insiders say Kylie’s younger sister Dannii joined forces with their parents, Ron and Carol, to stage a dramatic intervention before Christmas. The move was a desperate bid to persuade Kylie, 48, to call off her wedding to 29year-old Josh, who they feared was taking her for a ride and using her for her fame.
“Dannii found out some home truths about Joshua,” our insider explains. “After that the family told Kylie she had to call off the wedding – and they really put the pressure on.
“She ultimately had to choose between Joshua and her family.”
After rumours surfaced last week that Josh had a fling with 34-year-old Marta Milans, his co-star on US TV rom-com No Tomorrow, Dannii’s concerns seem warranted. Some say it was Josh’s relationship with the Spanish actress that pushed Kylie over the edge, forcing her to heed her family’s advice and kick Josh out of her house.
Josh’s intentions certainly appear dubious. Vinnie Jones, Josh’s co-star on Galavant, says he had set his sights on Kylie before she even arrived for her guest star role: “He was moving into her hotel the night before she came – on purpose.”

It’s understood 45-year-old Dannii never trusted Josh.
“She’s been spending a lot of time in the UK filming her show,
Let it Shine, so she’s seen firsthand what Kylie’s relationship was like, and how shady and manipulative Joshua could be,” the friend says. “She repeatedly urged Kylie to dump him, but Kylie was blinded by love.
“It caused huge tension in Dannii and Kylie’s relationship – which was tough as they’ve always been so close.”
The former X Factor judge – previously a vocal advocate for marriage equality – even refused to join her sister and Josh’s “Say I Do Down Under” campaign for same-sex marriage. It was a sure sign she wasn’t fully behind the couple’s relationship. “I’m doing my own thing,” she said when asked about her own stance.
Last week family friend Peter Ford confirmed the Minogues were “thrilled” Kylie had finally seen the light and taken their advice on board. “He was bad news,” Peter says of Josh. “They always had concerns. Dannii is like a sniffer dog – she can suss out a bulls**t artist anywhere, and she did not like him.”
After announcing the end of her engagement, Kylie thanked fans for their support.
“Kylie eventually realised her family and friends were right,” our source explains. “That gave her the courage to finally pull the plug. Everyone is relieved she saw sense before going through with the wedding, but they’re also conscious of how heartbroken and crushed she is. They are all is rallying round to support her and ensure she doesn’t make the same mistakes again.”
