Our secret wedding
She took home five gongs at the Grammys last week, but Adele had another reason to celebrate. Accepting her award for Album of the Year, she delighted fans when she let slip a rather big secret – she’s married!
“My husband, my son, you’re the only reason I do it,” Adele, 28, said in a teary speech, which seemingly confirmed speculation she has tied the knot with Simon Konecki, 42.
Rumours swirled last year that the 15-time Grammy winner was set to wed Simon over Christmas, and Adele added fuel to the fire when she was spotted wearing what looked like a gold wedding band in late December. Some wondered if she was celebrating more than the arrival of a new year, when she was spotted buying champagne-shaped balloons and party supplies ahead of a New Year’s Eve bash at her home in LA.
It’s believed the couple chose to marry during the school holidays so their four-year-old son Angelo, and Simon’s nine-year-old daughter from his previous marriage, could be there to share the occasion.
“They’re a private couple and only want their nearest and dearest there,” a friend said last November, when asked about the couple’s planned nuptials. “The plan is to marry in LA, but they want to keep the details under wraps.”
Simon is the founder and CEO of Drop4drop, a non-profit organisation that helps supply clean water to communities in developing countries. He and Adele were first seen together in January 2012, and it’s believed they bonded over their shared desire to make a difference in the world through charity work.
