GEORGE STARTS BIG SCHOOL

... and he’s already in strife!

-

When Prince George strode confidently into his first day of preschool last year, hearts melted around the world. Now royal watchers are on the edge of their seats anticipating the future king’s first day at big school, where his characteristic cheekiness will really be tested. “I’m not sure George has any idea what’s going to hit him,” his mum, the Duchess of Cambridge, remarked recently to renowned architect Richard Found and his art expert wife Jane Suitor, whose children already attend Thomas’s Battersea School in London. George has become a firm favourite for his cute outfits and adorable facial expressions, but fitting into a structured school curriculum amid 540 pupils may prove challenging for the lovable royal rascal. And like many mothers of kindy kids, it seems Duchess Kate is now preparing herself for a few temper tantrums from George, who turns four in July and will start class in September. The boisterous prince might be in for a bit of a shock, but Kate, 35, can’t wait to become one of the school mums and make friends with the parents of George’s new mates. “I may see you at the school gates,” she told Richard and Jane, a comment that could suggest Kate – along with her husband Prince William – is keen to be heavily involved in George’s education. In the past, royal kids have often been dropped off and picked up by nannies, who have also helped with their homework.

But to those close to her, Kate’s desire to be involved in George’s school life comes as no shock. “It’s in her nature to be handson,” a friend says of Kate.

The royal couple’s choice of school took many observers by surprise, as the Cambridges had been widely tipped to send George to exclusive prep school Wetherby, which William attended.
