Two of our favourite ’90s TV stars step out together!
Ever since her divorce from Tom Cruise almost five years ago, Katie Holmes’s love-life has been shrouded in mystery.
She’s been loosely linked to a handful of men – most notably Jamie Foxx, the rumoured boyfriend she’s seldom been photographed with – but continues to cut a lonely figure through New York with only her 10-year-old daughter Suri for company.
Now, however, sources say Katie is finally ready to embark on a hot new romance – and the guy who’s stolen her heart is none other than Friends star Matthew Perry!
Katie, 38, and Matthew, 47, were first linked last year on the set of The Kennedys: After Camelot, a miniseries about life after JFK’S assassination. “They got on famously and set
tongues wagging among cast and crew because they clearly adored each other,” one of Katie’s friends tells Woman’s Day. “They were spending a lot of time together when the cameras stopped rolling and seemed smitten.”
And in news that’s sure to excite fans of the ’90s TV stars, it seems their courtship has continued since filming wrapped.
As the pair promoted the show last week, they appeared very cosy and comfortable in each other’s company – and they certainly did nothing to hide their obvious attraction to one another.
“They were very flirty together. The spark was there for all to see,” the friend says.
It’s understood the pair have been spending time together at Katie’s New York apartment, as well as at her sprawling Los Angeles mansion in celebrity haven Calabasas.
“They like to cook for each other, listen to music and talk about their love of the theatre,” our source reveals.
As their friendship appears to be turning into something more, those close to Katie are thrilled to see her smiling again after such turbulence in her personal life.
Matthew has had his share of struggles, too. The actor has battled alcohol and drugs, attending rehab twice (in 1997 and 2001), with his weight plummeting then blowing out again.
His strength and resilience in the face of such a challenging chapter is said to have impressed Katie, who knows firsthand what it’s like to pick up the pieces when your life has fallen apart.
“He makes her laugh, he’s very gentle and kind – and vulnerable even,” the friend says. “He’s had his problems in the past and that makes Katie feel very protective towards him. Matthew is very different from Tom – and I think that’s why Katie has fallen for him.”
If the pair are planning to make their relationship official, it would mark a welcome change of fortune for Katie, who has been yearning for relationship stability for some time – and if things progress the way she hopes, she could be “Katie” Perry!
“She’s been talking a lot lately about wanting to get married again and having more kids,” our insider says.
“Matthew is a real sweetheart and Katie’s enjoying her time with him. They’re taking things very slowly, but she has high hopes that something big will come of this.”
