Woman’s Day (Australia)

Hi everyone!

-

This week every year I’m always on the search for inspiring stories of men and women who have served our country, and during my time as editor-in-chief I’ve had the pleasure of bringing you some truly touching tributes. But as our news team searched for heroic stories to share in this Anzac issue, it occurred to me that all men and women of any war, at any time, past or present, deserve to have their stories told. So we told our own stories – from the incredible tale of our sub-editor Sophie’s great, great-uncle Robert who lost his life in WWI in France and was finally laid to rest in 2010 after his body was identified using her grandmother’s DNA, to my own grandpa Gerald O’sullivan who survived a mustard gas attack in WWI before serving once again in WWII (p38). Our loved ones are among almost 90,000 Aussie men and women who’ve lost their lives serving our country. So many of their stories remain untold but every one of our brave Diggers deserves to be remembered.
