Edwina Bartholomew to wed

The Sunrise star shares her delight as her long-time boyfriend proposes

-

It may have come as a complete surprise to Edwina Bartholomew when her boyfriend of six years Neil Varcoe proposed, but her Seven co-workers were totally in on the romantic secret!

In fact, fellow journalist Neil enlisted the Sunrise wardrobe department to help him design the engagement ring.

“He had the girls from wardrobe pretend to measure my ring finger for the Logies so he could get the right size,” a beaming Edwina explains.

“My boss Michael [Pell] was in on it. He had gone down to the jeweller to get it.”

While many girls would be thrilled with a huge diamond sparkler from elite jeweller Fairfax & Roberts, Edwina, 33, jokes that she tried to get Neil to exchange her ring for a less expensive one!

“We actually went to the storeore and I tried to make him take it back – said no one ever – andd they don’t take refunds,” she laughs. “So I’m stuck with this rather large, amazingly gorgeous, gigantic diamond ring.”

Edwina says the pair are, understandably, “over the moon” – even though the proposal was derailed several times.

“He actually tried to propose a number of times but I would have something on that got in the way,” shares Edwina of the lead-up to the romantic occasion.

And Neil was so nervous by the time he finally got down on one knee at their NSW farm to ask Edwina to marry him, he almost lost the huge sparkler! rkler!

“It was quite funny – he dropped it on the ground d as he proposed,” she says of f the moment. The pair are yet to set a date, with both saying they are in no rush. But they are adamant that the ceremony will be a relaxed one.

“It will just be family and friends and something low-key,” the entertainment reporter says. “We’re not having 500 guests and a drumming band – it’s going to be pretty simple.

“My only prerequisite is that we have sausage rolls and pies and ham rolls at the end of the night. I hate it when you go to weddings and it’sit s all fancy food and you can’t actually eat anything.”anyth
