After years of speculation, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden’s marriage looks to have fallen apart.

Last week the couple, who wed in 2010, appeared tense at a family lunch in Los Angeles. They sat on opposite sides of the table, and seemed only interested in chatting to their kids, Harlow, nine, and Sparrow, seven, and not to each other.

Sources say Nicole and Joel are living separate lives, with former The Voice Australia coach Joel, 38, spending most of his time in the studio, while Nicole, 35, is focusing on her TV comeback.

“Joel was supportive, but it’s definitely put an added strain on their marriage,” says a friend.
