Woman’s Day (Australia)

Kat Hoyos ‘I’m nothing like my character!’

-

The Habibs are back in Vaucluse for a second season, and fans can expect even more laughs this time around. Here, Kat Hoyos (Layla) opens up about her life on screen and off…

What do you love most about playing Layla? She’s so different to me. And she’s made me realise what it

takes to look so immaculate every day. With Layla, she has so much going on – the makeup, the hair, the jewellery. My mum’s the same – she takes two to three hours to get ready!

How does your boyfriend Rhys deal with your ever-increasing fame? I’m lucky because his dad is Garry Jack, who was a very

wellw known footballer. He understandsu what it’s like to haveh someone so close to him ini the spotlight. He’s very encouraginge and wants me tot do well.

T The show attracted controversyc at first, because it uses racial stereotypes. HasH the reaction from the LebaneseL community changed?c Rob Shehadie, oneo of the co-creators of the show,s is Lebanese himself, so he was very conscious about notn painting the community in a bad light. Now the show hash aired, Lebanese families are telling us how they can relate to the Habibs, and they love how they can all sit together in front of the TV and have a laugh. It’s that whole idea of family comingg together.g
