STRANGE SLEEP DISORDERS

you could be suffering from…

-

PMS insomnia As if the bloating, backaches and pelvic pains weren’t enough, your menstrual cycle can also cause PMS insomnia. Rising and falling levels of the hormones oestrogen and progesterone, which regulate your cycle, can affect your ability to fall and stay asleep.

REM sleep disorder

Ever yelled at your partner or hit them during the night? If you answered yes, you may have experienced REM sleep behaviour disorder. Sufferers act out their vivid action-packed dreams, engaging in sleep-talking, shouting, leaping or punching. You may not remember what you did when you wake in the morning, but chances are your partner will!

Nocturnal eating disorder

You may want to lock your pantry before bedtime if you suffer from nocturnal eating disorder. Sufferers go on eating binges while they are asleep with no recollection of the experience the next day – except the empty wrappers and crumbs. Oh, and the kilos creeping on.

Restless legs syndrome

If you ever feel a strong urge to move your legs while you’re trying to nod off, you could have a case of restless legs syndrome. The condition can also cause burning, itching and prickling sensations in the legs, making it extremely difficult to fall asleep.
