From Nanna Kerr, with love!

Miranda Kerr’s younger brother Matty and his husband Jimmy are making waves with their delicious dishes

-

Matty and Jimmy Kerr run theirh mostly organic restaurant, Nanna Kerr’s Kitchen in the NSW Hunter Valley, preparing food inspired by Matty’s beloved grandmother Ann. In this Woman’s Day exclusive, they share their special recipes and best foodie secrets.

Who inspired your love of cooking?

Matty Nan and Pa Kerr, of course! Pa had a huge vegie patch and he’d bring in whatever was in season for Nan to cook up. Nan always cooked for the entire family and we would sit in her kitchen sharing meals, conversations and love for hours on end. When Jimmy and I opened the restaurant, it was only natural that we’d draw inspiration from the kitchen where Miranda, I and all our relatives made so many memories!

Describe your home kitchen...

Jimmy It’s our social place and where we hang out most of the time. You’ll always find a pot of freshly made tea, or an open bottle of Hunter Valley wine! I’m regularly working on new ideas for the restaurant, so right now, it’s full of citrus from the garden and I’m making marmalades.

What are your pantry essentials?

Jimmy A jar of passata and a pack of linguine or penne pasta! We’ve got a great selection of spices and herbs, too. With these basics, you can always create something amazing.

What do you love cooking at home?

Matty Mum [Therese Kerr] always made us Vegemite gravy when Miranda and I were kids, so if I’m cooking a steak or even just sausages and mash for dinner, I’ll make that.

What do you whip up if time is tight?

Jimmy Pasta with butter and a couple of raw eggs stirred through it just before serving. We then smother it in freshly grated parmesan cheese and add a little chopped parsley. It’s delicious and ready in less than 15 minutes.
