“Cryotherapy is popular with athletes to help recover, but it’s now also being touted as a way to slim down, rejuvenate skin and alleviate pain. The premise is that the cold temperature increases blood flow to the internal organs and prompts a flooding of the red blood cells with oxygen, nutrients and enzymes. Sounds good! I must admit I was a little freaked out that a fine nitrogen mist – at -140°C! – was about to be sprayed all over my body. However, while I did feel quite chilly, it was nothing I couldn’t handle. Stripped down to my underwear, I was given warm boots and gloves to protect my hands and feet so I felt kind of cosy. I was feeling sore from barre class, but after a cryo session that eased. Plus, that night I slept like a baby. Double win! The catch is you need to keep up cryo to see the results, which do vary.”
