FIONA’S GUIDE TO A LUXE BED

An upholstered bedhead is a must-have for creating a really luxurious bed. I chose this light grey colour as a cool contrast to all the other warm tones. This balances out the room and also picks up on the touches of grey in the artwork.

Start with four regular pillows, two on each side of the bed, resting against the bedhead. Put the most plump one at the front (we used Tontine I’m High And Mighty Pillows from Spotlight). Now add some decorative cushions. Layer them in a pyramid so there are more at the back and the smallest cushions sit at the front. Pull your quilt off the end of the bed. Lay a folded comforter and throw two-thirds up the bed. Fold down the top of the quilt about 20cm to rest on top of the layers. This layering gives the bed extra volume. A mix of fabric such as linen, velvet, tassels and cotton is key to creating texture and visual interest. Get inspired by artwork with a few key colours – it can be a great starting point for choosing your bedding colours. Here, I chose mustard, peach and terracotta tones.
