What’s a fast?

“Fasting is the avoidance off solid foods for a number of days. It can be as extreme ass a water-only fast, or as lenient ent as one that allows you to have smoothies, broths and essential fatty acids in oil form. Most fasts fall in the middle and include juices, herbs and supplement­s.”

Why is fasting so popular?

“The physical benefits of fasting are amazing – and the emotional and mental clarity you feel after a fast is even better! At first you may be a bit emotional, but as everything comes back into balance you’ll feel a wonderful sense of calm and good health.”

What’s the point?

“Fasting gives your digestive system time off, which means the energy you’d usually use digesting food can be directed towards eliminatin­g toxins, excess fats, hormones and byproducts from foods and chemicals from cosmetics and household products. It allows the body to recalibrat­e and function optimally.”

Who can benefit from a fast?

“Anyone, but they work better if your diet is high in fat, sugar, caffeine, alcohol and processed foods to begin with. Always see your GP before starting a fast.”

Will I feel great immediatel­y?

“You’ll feel terrible for a few days as the toxins leave your body. Symptoms can range from headaches and heavy joints to flu-like symptoms and hot and cold sweats. It depends on the level of toxicity in your body.”
