What’s all the fuss about Dr Liu? Staffer Phillip Koch tried the fast for himself

-

“I’m in Dr Liu’s Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic in Chchatswood, Sysydney for a box of his mysterious (I never find oout what’s in it) herbal mixture, mixt after a ‘cupping’ session to find out how toxic I am. “Reaching my ‘optimum’ weight means losing 18kg – from 92kg to 74kg. I laugh nervously as he says I need to fast for four weeks, then follow his program for 101 days. The promise? I could live to 100 years old!”

The process

“I lasted 12 and a half days. I lost almost 7kg and rarely felt hungry, although day five was a shocker after a night of stomach cramps, listlessness and irritability.

“Daily acupuncture and massage, including g intense stomach massages, helped overcome the lure of coffee, which hit like a punch in the head every time I passed a cafe, and the lack of energy was immense. Day eight was fantastic – I felt clean, trim and ready to take on the world. Colours looked brighter and I felt energised.”

Converted!

“I was happy to eat again but I’ll definitely do another fast later this year. It changed my relationship with food (although I put on 2kg in six days afterwards) and made me feel like exercising more. My organs felt like they’d been on a holiday or, in Dr Liu’s words, ‘recalibrated’.

“Eddie Mcguire showed off his 15kg lighter frame the week after I finished, making me wonder what I could have achieved if it wasn’t for that pizza shouting out at me after 12 long days of herbs, black tea and water.”
