We sport $8000 on our doggie wedding

The yappy couple wore bespoke outfits and sipped doggie ‘wine’

When neighbours Anson and Nieve walk to school together each morning with their mums, they’re accompanied by their dogs Luna and Paco – who are inseparable.

So close are the pair of pups, the children, both 11, decided they should officially be married. Three-year-old Luna, a puggle, and shih tzu Paco, two, barked their “I dos” in a touching backyard ceremony earlier this year.

While the dogs’ big day didn’t come cheap, Anson’s mum Hayley Windsor from Ipswich in England says it was incredibly touching. “It was so gorgeous. Paco and Luna couldn’t stop kissing and licking each other,” she says, adding the cost of a bespoke wedding dress, jewelled collars, food and entertainment quickly added up – to $8000!

“We figured if we were going to do it, we needed to go above and beyond,” Hayley says, laughing.

“We definitely didn’t anticipate we’d spend that much money, but we did it for the kids and knew they’d love every minute of it.”

Nieve learnt to play Here Comes The Bride on the organ, and Anson’s dad Danny acted as the vicar after taking an online course.

The pups sealed the deal with diamante collars, at which point there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. “It was quite an emotional day,” says Hayley. “They looked so happy – they couldn’t take their eyes off each other!”

After the pups signed the register with paw prints, ate and toasted with “Pawsecco”, their humans celebrated with a lavish buffet. There was even a DJ spinning hits like Puppy Love and Hound Dog.

Anson and Nieve are thrilled – but what about Luna and Paco?

“They’re closer than ever and are always really excited to see each other. It is really sweet.”
