The cracks in Russell and Terri’s relationship are starting to show
Over the past year, Terri Irwin and Russell Crowe’s romance has gone from strength to strength. Excited fans across the nation were even hoping they’d soon hear wedding bells for their two favourite Aussie icons, after they had reportedly discussed plans to have a “small, intimate” ceremony next year.
But in news that will shock fans around the country, Woman’s Day can reveal the fairytale romance has reached breaking point, with heartbroken Terri desperate for the actor to commit to their relationship for good, while Rusty appears to be dragging his heels.
Now she’s fed up with hearing excuses. Terri has been patiently waiting for Russell to finalise his divorce from Danielle Spencer for months, but just as that appeared to be edging closer – he has sold several of their shared properties – rumours of Russell cuddling up to other women have left her reeling.
According to friends of the Irwin clan, Terri’s been set on going public for months. But her plea to Russell, 53, has only become more fraught recently as his rumoured flings and flirty behaviour continue to make headlines.
In June, Terri, 53, was left devastated when Woman’s Day revealed the Gladiator actor was “smitten” with Love Child star Sophia Forrest. At the time, we were told the Aussie icon had enjoyed a string of dates and Sophia, 22, had even met his sons Charlie, 13, and Tennyson, 11. Just weeks earlier, Russ caused a stir when he was snapped nuzzling co-star Annabelle Wallis’s neck on The Mummy red carpet.
To make matters worse, he went on to downplay his and Terri’s relationship to his 2.67 million followers on Twitter in a post on Terri’s birthday, of all days. “I have loved you in so many different magazines… haha… happy birthday to you!!” he joked.
As if that wasn’t embarrassing enough, when pushed in interviews he’s spoken of his strong feelings for Terri, saying, “You know I do love Terri, I love her kids and I love how she’s kept the memory of Steve alive and respected the work the two of them had begun and she’s an absolute champion,” before swiftly dismissing their romance once more, adding, “but we’re not in a relationship”.
Terri’s not the only one shocked by Russell’s questionable antics. Bindi is also said to be distraught at seeing her mum so upset. Last week, Bindi – who in the past has said she loves Rusty and considers him a “dear friend” of the family – took to social media to drop hints a “toxic person” in her close-knit circle had betrayed her. Tellingly, Terri retweeted the message.
Nobody can blame the wildlife warrior, 19, and her mum for feeling let down – with friends revealing Bindi is now doing everything she can to comfort Terri through this difficult time.
Let’s hope Russell and Terri can come to an agreement about how they want their relationship to proceed, before it’s all too late.
