Summer camp murderer
Eric Smith was just 13 years old in 1993 when he spotted four-year-old Derrick Robie walking towards a summer camp just a block from his home. But rather than escort the youngster, Smith chose to lure him into the woods, where he brutally strangled the young boy before dropping a rock on his head.
It was Derrick’s mum who raised the alarm when her son couldn’t be located. Tragically, after a four-hour search, his body was found.
Six days later, Smith finally confessed the brutal crime to his mother, who heavy heartedly revealed the truth to authorities that evening.
Saying his attack on Derrick was the result of years of being bullied, Smith was sentenced to nine years to life in prison and the 37-yearold is still behind bars after being denied parole eight times.
