Feeling the strain

She walked away from their marriage amid rumours her husband Jeffrey Soffer had been secretly wooing other women.

But now Elle Macpherson has been hit with another bombshell – she may end up with nothing from her divorce settlement to the billionaire developer!

The model, 53 – who split from Jeff in June – was spotted last week looking downcast, drawn and worryingly thin as she met her son Aurelius, 14, for lunch in New York.

According to sources, Jeff, 47, has been bragging to pals he and Elle were never technically married following their 2013 wedding ceremony in Fiji – meaning she will receive nothing from their settlement. So it’s little wonder Elle has been feeling the strain!

At the time of their split, it was rumoured Elle had walked away from the divorce with a $26 million mansion, plus an additional $53 million.

To date, there are no records of a SofferMacpherson divorce in Florida. And according to the Fijian embassy in Washington, DC, “Overseas visitors intending to get married in Fiji are required by law to obtain and sign a marriage licence of their choice from the nearest marriage registry prior to the marriage ceremony.”

Fiji also has its own rules over who can perform a wedding.

Given the lack of details released about the nuptials over the years – including who married the pair at the time – it’s unsurprising those close to Elle are worried about how she’ll cope if the revelation is true.

Indeed, last month the Aussie hinted she was struggling to deal with the fallout from the divorce by posting on Instagram, “So far you’ve survived 100 per cent of your worst days. You’re doing great.”

She also uploaded a cryptic quote from author Mark Twain. It said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”
