It was the question everyone was asking last week – how would you feel if your wife kissed another man on the lips – in front of you?!

When Nicole Kidman took her co-star Alexander Skarsgard’s face in her hands and firmly planted a kiss on his lips as the crowd at the Emmy Awards watched on, her husband Keith Urban appeared unfazed.

But while he played the ever-supportive partner for the cameras, later that night, Keith, 49, lost his cool.

Onlookers at an afterparty have revealed exclusively to Woman’s Day details of the couple’s explosive showdown.

Just one week after it was reported Keith and Nicole are expecting twin boys early next year via a surrogate, those at the awards celebration say they now fear for the couple’s marriage after what is being described as “a fight to end all fights”.

“Keith accused Nicole of disrespecting and humiliating him by kissing Alexander in front of everyone,” our insider explains. “They looked tense as soon as they walked into the afterparty and it was clear there was something going on, despite their initial attempts to put on a united front.

“They’d posed for pictures on the red carpet outside, but they separated as soon as they got inside the party, with Keith going straight to the bar and tucking into the dumplings that were being passed around.

“Nicole made an instant beeline for Alexander, despite Keith already accusing her of blatantly disregarding him.

“They were at loggerheads the whole evening and it looked like Nicole was trying to get under Keith’s skin – draping her arms around Alexander and trying to kiss him again, which was incredibly awkward for everyone else in the room.

“Nicole made it clear she had an axe to grind and the more cocktails she drank, the more intense and obvious her behaviour became. Reese [Witherspoon] even took her to one side later in the night and was seen quietly talking in her ear and clearly trying to mediate.

“Keith and Nicole then had a heated discussion in the corner, before both stormed off relatively early in the proceedings.”

Actress in a Limited Series for her role in Big Little Lies. Swedish star Alexander, 41, also picked up a gong for his role in the show, playing her abusive husband.

When the series aired earlier this year, the actress gushed about Alexander – with whom she filmed many racy scenes – claiming she pushed producers to cast him as her husband.

“I wanted him! I wanted him badly,” Nicole said. “I was like, come on, please. Come on, HBO, we’ve gotta get him.”

Alexander admits the pair grew close, particularly after filming their more violent scenes together. “It was very important to reconnect after shooting those scenes,” he says.

“We made a point of checking in with each other, giving each other a hug. Nicole is an incredible partner because she is so generous and so open and it makes it easier as an actor when you have a partner like that.”
