Homes The Block: secrets to renovating for profit
Renovating for profit? The Block stars share the secrets you need to know…
Don’t skimp on quality
Josh and Elyse say: We wanted our living room to ooze class, quality and sophistication. The exposed radiant heater was always on our to-do list, and this is the cherry on top. We love the smell of a real fireplace. Less is more. Do a great job with the build quality because most people can see straight through the styling, and these items will no doubt change anyway.
There’s always a market for a good-quality home. Prepare a target budget and timeframe. Choose the right areas for return, even if it means spending more. It comes back to you tenfold once the house is sold.
Make it warm & inviting
Hannah and Clint say: Our media room created a warm and intimate space. It presents as a whisky room, however we could quite easily picture a family enjoying a board game by the fireplace. The judges hit the nail on the head when they said it’s a room you don’t want to leave. You could curl up on that leather couch with your favourite read and spend an entire afternoon in there.
Go for practical but bold
Ronnie and Georgia say: Our guest bedroom is a functional space and really consistent with the look of the other rooms in the house. The Ellie Cashman wallpaper is what we love most. It’s such a statement, and we think it takes courage to take risks like that. We also love that we managed to pop an ensuite in that’s perfectly sized to suit a guest bedroom.
