Woman’s Day (Australia)

Behind The Scenes

-

The wait is over! This week we’ll see the first part of the ABC’S much-hyped two-part miniseries Friday On My Mind – based on Aussie rockers The Easybeats.

Christian Byers, 24, who plays Stevie Wright, admits it’s been quite an adventure. He tells Woman’s Day why playing the role was such a privilege.

Were you an Easybeats fan?

I was. I had a really strong awareness of them and a few of their songs. I remember watching their Long Way To The Top concert on TV when I was 14. Since then, I’ve been utterly captivated by Stevie Wright.

Did you enjoy working closely with Will Rush, Mackenzie Fearnley, Du Toit Bredenkamp and Arthur Mcbain?

It was a very noisy set! After filming one day we just broke into Don’t Look Back In Anger by Oasis and bellowed it coming back to set. It was very amusing.

What was it like working with Daniel Radcliffe in December Boys?

He’s a good role model. He taught me how to not be a d***head, and how to do your job and show respect to those around you.

What’s next for you?

I’ve just finished working on Riot, which will be on ABC next year. It’s about the lead-up to the first Mardi Gras as in 1978. I play Peter Murphy, who was severely beaten up by cops that night. To be in an n environment with a lot of gay y and lesbian cast and crew was a wonderful experience. FRIDAY ON MY MIND Sunday, 8.40pm, ABC
