I lost 40kg! Success story

When this mum-of-four lost a ton of weight, she didn’t realise just how much it would change her life

Ann Mccann’s uncle grabbed her face in surprise – he barely recognised his niece after she dropped from 104kg to 64kg.

“He held my face and said, ‘Just stop talking – it’s too strange seeing this little face moving and your voice coming out,’” Ann recalls.

It’s a reaction that she’s had to get used to. “I’ve had a lot of people not recognise me s since my weight loss,” says the 5 55-year-old mum-of-four from N NSW’S Southern Highlands.

“I’ve always felt overweight, t though looking back I wasn’t until I started having children. I would balloon, put 15-20 kilos on per child, and then if I didn’t recover between them, I’d just whack on more and more.”

Ann was watching morning TV one day when she saw a segment about the Ph@tt – Putting Health at the Top – program. “They talked about not having to exercise on the program and I thought, ‘This one is for me.’ I loathe exercise.”

The program sees participants follow a low-calorie, low-carb diet that retrains your mind and changes your eating habits.

“From day one I was losing weight, and I think that is what probably clinched it for me. I didn’t feel like I was depriving myself, I just felt I was doing things to make me healthier.”

And Ann’s uncle isn’t the only one who doesn’t recognise her.

“I was walking with my husband Dave and saw a friend I’d known for years but hadn’t seen for a while. She recognised Dave but she didn’t recognise me,” she says with a laugh. “Of course she was thinking, ‘Who is this bimbo that Dave’s out with?’ As she got closer, she realised it was me and said, ‘I thought Dave was with some bird, I was going to ring you up!’”

Ann says she is thrilled with her dramatic weight loss. “It’s really life changing – and that’s an exhilarating feeling.”
