As her marriage to Tom Ackerley comes under strain, Margot Robbie is finding solace with Alexander Skarsgard
As Margot Robbie celebrated at the SAG Awards last week, there was one man by her side – but it wasn’t her husband of 13 months, UK assistant director Tom Ackerley. Instead, the actress was the picture of bliss as she embraced heartthrob Alexander Skarsgard! The two have spoken of their “deep connection” when filming The Legend Of Tarzan in 2015, with Margot admitting his amazing body left her “speechless”, while Alex gushed about how “stunningly gorgeous” he found his co-star.
TENSE SITUATION
While the chemistry between Alex, 41, and Margot, 27, was clear to fellow Award attendees, equally obvious was the fact that Margot’s husband, Tom, 28, spent barely any time with his wife – they even sat at different tables.
SAG Award spies tell Woman’s Day the pair barely spoke, with Tom storming off the red carpet as they posed for photographers. And while rumours have been circling for months their marriage is on shaky ground, a tense argument that night took onlookers by surprise.
“The tension between Margot and Tom was clear as soon as they got out of their limo and greeted fans on the red carpet,” our insider reveals.
“Margot seemed stressed and agitated, and Tom stormed off at one point when she was posing for pictures on the red carpet,”
the source says. “They barely said a word to each other all night. Margot was visibly upset.”
COUNSELLING
According to a friend of the couple, Tom’s jealousy over Margot’s burgeoning career has contributed to the rift between them.
“Margot has been telling friends that ever since they moved to LA her relationship with Tom has been crumbling.
“It got so bad before Christmas they decided their next step would have to be marriage counselling,” says our source of the warring pair.
They’ve been spending more and more time apart as they struggle to find a happy balance.
And Tom was missing when Margot attended the I, Tonya premiere in Sydney last week, where she also celebrated the news of her Oscar nomination with friends.
Still, Margot has been at pains to insist their relationship is as strong as it ever was.
“We don’t really fight,” she recently said of the man she fell for in 2013. “I know that sounds weird, but we’re not people who like conflict. We don’t need to yell at each other to know we love each other.”
